The Lemosho Route Approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, starting with a scenic drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. The journey begins with two days of trekking through lush rainforest, leading up to Shira Ridge. From there, the trail gently crosses the expansive Shira Plateau from west to east, offering a relatively easy and enjoyable hike. The route remains quiet until it merges with the Machame Route near Lava Tower. As the climb continues, trekkers traverse beneath Kilimanjaro’s breathtaking Southern Ice Field along the Southern Circuit before making the final push to the summit from Barafu. The descent follows the Mweka Route.

For those looking to avoid the grueling midnight summit push, the 9-day Lemosho “daytime summit” route is a great option. Instead of battling extreme cold and wind in the dark, you’ll summit in daylight and return to Barafu Camp for the night. This approach allows for a more comfortable and less exhausting climb, though it does add an extra day for descent. However, keep in mind that with a daytime summit, you’ll miss the breathtaking sunrise from Uhuru Peak, a highlight for many climbers.
